Leading multinationals are asking the EC to target 24% cut in Co2 by 2025
At 27% of total EU emissions, transport is Europe’s biggest climate problem and heavy-duty vehicles account for 26% of road transport CO2. If Europe wants to lead the fight to curb climate change then ambitious truck fuel efficiency standards in combination with good management of truck operations, maintenance and driver training are crucial.
Alongside with 36 major global brands, transport companies and hauliers associations Smart Freight Centre is amongst the signatories of a letter to Jean Claude Juncker, which urges the EC to:
- Make a proposal for ambitious truck fuel efficiency standards during the first half of 2018 reducing fuel consumption of 2025 tractor units by 24 percent.
- Incentivize truck manufacturers to sell zero-emission vehicles by introducing an ambitious mandatory sales target for zero-emission trucks as part of the next fuel efficiency standards proposal
