SFC Job Opportunity: Program Manager – Air Transport

About Smart Freight Centre

Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is a globally active non-profit organization for climate action in the freight sector. We are enablers for those who believe in united action to reduce logistics greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. SFC brings together multinationals, freight forwarders, carriers, NGOs, and governments in our collaborative initiatives, trainings, and programs. Together, we help solve business challenges to reduce freight emissions. Our goal is to guide the industry to track and reduce its GHG emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030 and reach zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

About the position

SFC is currently establishing an air transport decarbonization program (for an example of an SFC mode-specific decarbonization program, see what SFC is doing with Clean Cargo). The primary focus of the role is to design, develop and co-ordinate this new program and initiate engagement approach and start to drive a major shift in the global air transport sector.

SFC is growing fast and the Program Manager will have room and some autonomy to innovate and guide the future development of the new program.

You will be working closely with the Program Director and business development team. This position will also give you the opportunity to work with some of the world's biggest public-facing companies (FT500 or equivalent).

Your tasks will include:
  • Researching means to decarbonize air transport and translating the findings into actionable recommendations for SFC membership
  • Day-to-day project management of this new program, inclusive of oversight of the overall program work plan
  • Overseeing, supporting, and communicating the development of air freight-related work led by experienced colleagues
  • Developing the overall approach to strategic communications and air transport engagement
  • Coordinating the overall work program, including leadership of workstreams, reviewing project progress and developing next-step materials
  • Organizing and facilitating air transport program member meetings
  • Supporting air transport program member recruitment and retention activities
  • Overseeing and coordinating air transport program presentations at conferences, presentations to board members, and developing air freight emission reports as appropriate
  • Support collaboration projects related to air transport
  • Preparing reports to funders
As the ideal candidate you will demonstrate:
  • Technical interest and understanding of the air transport industry and its decarbonization challenges (e.g., technical, operational, energy sourcing)
  • 5+ years’ work experience in the sustainability and-or climate change space, preferably in the freight and logistics sector or in the air transport sector
  • A strong track record of excellent stakeholder engagement, management and communication skills
  • Proven success in developing new programs and delivering impactful projects
  • Strong project management and budget management skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced working environment
  • A proactive, organized and innovative work attitude
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to make technical content accessible to non-technical audiences
  • Fluency in English, comparable to a native English speaker
  • Ability to work independently but also within a team
  • Ability to easily adapt to changing situations and prioritize accordingly
  • Ability to work in a structured and logical manner
